Mayu Daigen / 大源 麻友
Born in Osaka in 1985, Daigen Mayu uses traditional materials such as silk scrolls and mineral colors to paint traditional Eastern motifs, from goldfish, which occupy an important place in the aesthetics of leisure, to Buddhist iconography. I paint these images from a putatively Orientalist standpoint, the better to undermine the superficial ways in which such motifs are taken up in Western art history. Recently, Daigen participated in the Mount Koya Mandala project organized by Kyoto Saga Art University. The mandala was completed in July 2010 and ritually accepted.
1985年大阪生まれの Daigen Mayu は、絹本（絹のスクール）や岩絵の具といった伝統的な画材を用い、娯楽の美学において重要な位置を占める金魚から仏教のイコノグラフィー（聖像画）に至るまで、伝統的な東洋のモチーフを描いています。西洋の美術史においてこれらのモチーフが表層的に取り入れられてきた手法を覆すため、あえてオリエンタリズム的な視点からこれらのイメージを描いています。近年、Daigen は京都嵯峨芸術大学が主催した高野山曼荼羅プロジェクトに参加しました。この曼荼羅は2010年7月に完成し、法要を経て奉納されました。
