Yoko D Holbachie

Yoko D Holbachie

With a style that combines traditional Japanese anime with a distinctly western pop surrealist aesthetic, Yoko d Holbachies psychedelia-inspired oil paintings entice the viewer into an alternative visual universe, characterised by its vivid colours and intriguing inhabitants.

The former illustrators artwork invariably depicts playful, cute creatures existing in this saccharine neon world. Beneath the sweet facade however lie sinister and mysterious undertones, affected in the creatures vacant stares and odd deformities. This uncomfortable paradox is central to d Holbachies exploration of the meaning of dreams, or as she might put it, the spirits that journey through our subconscious.
