The Jean Pigozzi Collection Of Contemporary Japanese Art

Kana Uwatoko / 上床 加奈

b. 1995, Kagoshima, Japan.

Education : In 2016, Uwatoko graduated from the Illustration Department of Nippon Designer School.

Influenced by the compositions and colors found in Edo-period paintings and ukiyo-e, she says she creates works featuring yokai and fantastical creatures. While she draws on distinctly Japanese motifs, she skillfully weaves conceptual expressions into her work. Her mastery of composition and precision of line work set her apart from her peers.Since 2019, she has been holding solo exhibitions on a regular basis.
