The Jean Pigozzi Collection Of Contemporary Japanese Art

Excalibur

A contemporary art collective founded in Tokyo in 2006.
Based between Tokyo and Kyoto.

The Excalibur collective has established itself as one of the pioneers of pixel art in Japan. Founded by Yoshinori Tanaka and joined by Maiko Iwata, it explores the blurred boundaries between the personal and the mythological, the tangible and the digital. Their concept, “Street, Ethernet, Field,” brings personal memories and folk tales into dialogue to give rise to hybrid works that serve as both social documents and virtual mirrors.

Centered on the theme of the overlap between reality and the virtual through the concept of the “Street Ethernet Field,” it transforms personal memories into works of art that become social records by intersecting them with narrative and mythology.
